The primary functions of the Planning and Engineering Division are:

  • Guiding the Town of Kernersville’s current and long-range planning efforts with the goal of ensuring high quality, unique development.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the Town of Kernersville Unified Development Ordinance.
  • Review of development submittals for Civil Plan and Stormwater compliance.
  • Development review and recommendations to the Planning Board and Board of Aldermen on all matters pertaining to the future growth and development within Kernersville.

Planning Board Cases

The Planning Board meets monthly to hear legislative and administrative cases requesting rezonings, UDO text amendments, and other administrative reviews.

 

Board of Adjustment Cases

The Board of Adjustment meets monthly to hear quasi-judicial matters which result in the issuance of Special Use Permits.

As one of the primary economic development centers within the Piedmont Triad Metropolitan Region, Staff frequently engages with the development community regarding business and development opportunities. In many cases, this results in the expansion of water, sewer, or other essential infrastructure needed to support new areas of development.
