Police Officer

Description of Duties: Excellent job opportunity to qualified applicant.  Duties include street patrol, basic investigations, and maintenance of general order in Kernersville.  Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule.

Stormwater Technician

Description of Duties: Performs technical engineering, environmental, and surveying duties relating to the design, operation, and maintenance of the stormwater drainage system; assists engineers in development review; including calculations and technical reports.  Conduct construction site and illicit discharge inspections, investigations, and documentation.  Generates and delivers reports and presentations to town staff, civic organizations, and elected officials.  Maintains databases.  Performs surface water quality sampling.  General direction is received from the Stormwater Administrator.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Science, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  2 years of progressive experience in water resources and stormwater management.  Comprehensive knowledge of surveying, GIS and GPS practices, techniques, equipment, and standards.
Salary Range: $37,114 - $54,929 (Grade 17)

Engineering Design Technician

Description of Duties: Provides transportation technical assistance in the fields of transportation planning, transportation engineering, transportation project management and other related activities.  Oversees the Town's Traffic Count Program, and directs Public Works staff and temporary employees on short-term assignments.  Manage project files on Town construction projects, including such information as design files, funding requirements, correspondence and contracts between the Town and NCDOT.  Investigate and pursue local, state, and federal grant opportunities to fund transportation improvements.  Work with NCDOT to oversee State's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and local projects.  Track transportation project data (status updates, financial data, etc.), and report on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.  Prepare PowerPoint presentations for elected officials and a variety of audiences.  Participate in public information sessions and other presentations made to citizens or other interested parties on transportation issues; coordinate projects and share data with other agencies.  Prepare and distribute newsletters, mailings, handouts on transportation projects or plans, and update the Transportation page of the Town's website regularly.  Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: An associate degree from a technical school or community college preferably with a major in civil engineering, construction management, or public administration or related field, and two years experience working in a professional environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Construction Maintenance Worker

Description of Duties: Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of maintenance tasks in roads, ROWs, and public grounds.  Cuts grass using power riding and push equipment, weed eaters; removes leaves and debris from curb sides, sidewalks, streets, catch basins using hand tools and assisting with Vac-all; trims shrubbery, clears and landscapes grounds; serves as a crew member to make asphalt patches, install drainage pipe, sidewalks, curb and gutter; picks up trash on road sides; assists with signing for constructions sites and flagging traffic according to MUTCD standards; operates pick-up trucks, checks oil and fluid levels and tires; assists in the maintenance of construction equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

NC Driver's License.  Working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in semi-skilled and skilled manual labor, asphalt patching, grounds maintenance.  Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens.  Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.  Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, and 20 lbs. constantly.  Prefer High School graduation or equivalent.

Salary Range: $19,681 - $29,127 (Grade 4)
