Thoroughfare and Street Plan Map

The Kernersville Thoroughfare and Street Plan is a critical component of the Town’s transportation planning process. The Unified Development Ordinance prioritizes connectivity throughout the community creating travel pattern options and making multi-modal transportation a realistic vision for the Town.

The Town’s elected officials are faced with the difficult task of balancing the need for road improvements and maintaining a low tax rate, while the Community Development Department must evaluate and manage the pace of land development and distribution of vehicular movement as populations shift over time. The Community Development staff also strive to ensure pedestrian safety, accommodate bicycle travel, and plan for a long term, sustainable roadway system.
