2026 Livestake Planting Party

Help spruce up the creek at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex for Valentines Day! The Town of Kernersville will be hosting a planting party to plant native shrubs along the stream banks on January 14, 2026 between 2pm-4pm. This is a continuing effort by the Town to restore the streams at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex for healthy, stable streams for wildlife and nature lovers alike.

We’ll be planting livestakes and bare root seedlings along one branch of the creek. Livestakes are cuttings of woody, dormant shrubs that are planted along the stream bank. They are a great cost-efficient way to help protect and stabilize stream banks and keep our water clean. Bare root trees are small-rooted seedlings that will be planted near the bank to further improve the stability and diversity of the creek habitat.

We will be meeting at 788 Shield Rd. at the gravel parking lot marked by a red star on the map above. Tools such as spades and mallets will be provided.  We encourage you to bring rain boots as some of us will be standing in the creek! Instructions on planting livestakes and bare root seedlings will be provided and Town Staff will be available for any questions.
