Do you live in or near Kernersville? You probably have noticed a little annoying bug all over the place, called the Spotted Lanternfly. One stage is black and white, then it turns red and white, then it becomes this bigger bug that is a super-fast jumper. Kernersville is the epicenter for the outbreak. Whoever brought them here…thanks a lot! NOT!
Anyway, we’ve been telling people to stomp them for the last few years, and the NC Department of Ag has been treating for them in specific places all over Town and beyond. You’re probably wondering why it seems like nothing is working and there are more than ever…each insect can lay up to 100 eggs! Wowsa. Spotted Lanternflies have taken over Kernersville! Please don’t stop trying to stomp the adults, however, now is the time of year to bait the hook with a trap for the eggs. The Town of Kernersville and Mid-Atlantic Roofing Supply are providing free lampshade traps for the public.
MUST sign up to pick up one of the free 500 kits and help reduce the population of Spotted Lanternflies! You just need to find a tree they love to climb on that is about 6”-8” in diameter at about 4’ high.
