Lithium-Ion Battery Disposal Ban Coming December 1, 2026

Beginning December 1, 2026, North Carolina will prohibit the disposal of lithium-ion batteries in landfills.

Lithium-ion batteries are commonly found in cell phones, laptops, power tools, and other rechargeable devices. When improperly discarded, these batteries can pose serious fire hazards to garbage trucks, recycling facilities, and landfills.

The Town of Kernersville encourages residents to help protect our community and sanitation workers by properly recycling lithium-ion batteries rather than placing them in household trash or curbside recycling carts.

Remember: Keep lithium-ion batteries out of your trash and recycling carts!
