This past month we saw the beginning of a renovation project at Civitan Park. Originally built in 1987, the park was made possible by a generous land donation by our local Civitan Civic Club. Civitan Park was a great mix of active and passive amenities that served the citizens well for many years. This renovation project was first identified as an objective in the 2012 Parks and Recreation System Wide plan. Acting upon this objective, the parks and recreation department reached out to a consultant group to begin the conceptual design process. As we began meeting with our citizens and focus groups in input gathering phase a new theme began to emerge for Civitan Park. That theme was focused on fitness and lifelong activities. Once presented with all the collected data and our conceptual drawings, the Kernersville Civitan Club voted to update the parks name to match its new focus, Civitan Fitness Park.
The plan includes a redesigned walking trail & ballfield, four (4) dedicated tennis courts, three (3) dedicated pickleball courts, a basketball court, two (2) shelters, a challenge course & a Fitness Court sponsored by Novant Health.
We have begun with the rough grading of the full site. Area that will have specific grading are the baseball fields and adjoining areas. We are also seeing grading progress where the pickleball and tennis courts will be located.
Our Department is excited for the developments to this park and the impact it will have on our community. Keep an eye out for more updates on the process in the coming months! You can follow us on Facebook @kvparks and Instagram @kvpark125.
